Bus Stop Model

The bus stop design project was the final project for a class. For my redesign, I addressed water infiltration and stormwater management without changing the basic bus stop design. My site placement was a bus stop that regularly floods, has very little seating, and very little paved surface. Most of the ground surrounding the bus stop is dirt that turns to mud when it rains. Using a mix of red and white brick, I mimicked the style of Rutgers’ historic buildings while using permeable wood platforms to cover what would be a drain system that fills a series of cisterns. The cisterns would be within the white garden planters, and release collected rainwater over time back into the surrounding soils.
